Conversations with a 2 year old

I just love, love, LOVE all the funny, cute, adorable things Maddie has been saying lately so I have to get them written down in a blog post or someday I will forget them!  Maddie was kind of a late talker but lately her vocabulary and communication skills have just exploded and I am amazed every day at the new things she is learning :)

We had a little "conversation" recently and it went something like this:

Mads: "Hi Mama"

Me: "Hey, Maddie what is your favorite animal?"

Mads: "Uhh...a bear, cow, sheep and a frog too!"

Me: "What is your favorite color?"

Mads: "Pink and purple!"

I guess she's about as indecisive as her parents are.  My mom still teases me to this day about how Quan and I couldn't make up our minds at first about whether we were going to date each other or just stay friends :)

Here's some other recent cute Maddie-isms:
  • Maddie has a new found love of Honey Nut Cheerios and she calls them "The Bee Cheerios" because there is a bee on the box.  So in the morning she will tell me, "Mama, I wants some Bee Cheerios".
  • She now refers to our dog by her given name instead of just calling her "doggy" all the time.  She can't exactly say "Lucy" and it comes out sounding like "Loogie" instead.  Yep, pronounced like the gross wad of mucus spit thing!
  • Whenever we tell Maddie "No" or put her in time out, she will say "I'm not happy".
  • Maddie absolutely loves going to the library and we got to experience first hand how strong her feelings were for the library the other night.  We had all piled into the van to run a couple of errands, including a quick stop at the library so I could drop off some books.  Quan stayed in the car with the kids while I ran inside.  When we started pulling out of the parking lot and Maddie realized she wasn't going to actually get to go inside the library, she started crying hysterically.  The crying lasting the entire drive home and then continued on as we got everyone back inside the house.  We could not get her to calm down and the whole outburst ended up resulting in a little throw up session in the kitchen!  Needless to say, we have since learned that we when go to the library, Maddie needs to go inside with us!
  • On days that we go to the library for story time, this is what I usually hear from the backseat:  "Library...where are you library?"  "I don't see it."  And as the library comes into view, "Library, library...I see it, I see it!"
  • Just recently, Maddie learned all of her colors and just loves pointing out the colors of different objects to us.  She's also been obsessed with rainbows lately but I guess I used to be a little obsessed with rainbows when I was a kid too :)  My lovey was a pillow with a rainbow on it and one of my very favorite shows was of course, Rainbow Brite!  Ah, the good old days of the '80's :)
  • Maddie's creativity just really amazes me sometimes.  I get such a kick out of the things that she comes up with.  Whenever she does something like put together blocks or a puzzle or arrange her animals she loves to say, "Good job Maddie" and "I made that".  It's just so cute!
  • Maddie is really challenging me lately as she has been becoming more independent and more opinionated as time goes on.  She loves to tell me "No" or "I do it"!  And she has started to want to make more decisions for herself like what she is wearing for the day or the stories we're reading at naptime.  As a friend of ours at church put it, she's starting to turn into a bit of a "sassy" little lady :)  But we just love her so much, struggles and all!
 My sassy girl!

She picked out this little clothing combo

Looking so grown up

An "I made that" moment :)
