Wow the last month has just flown by and our little boy is already one month old!
So here's what Caleb has been up to in his first month of life:
Sleeping has been hit or miss lately. Sometimes he will sleep great at night in his bassinet, only getting up a couple of times to eat, and other times he will only sleep in our arms. He seems to have his days and nights mixed up and is sometimes wide awake at odd hours of the night. And once Caleb is wide awake, it can take a long time to get him back to sleep. But at least he hasn't been very fussy when he is awake for hours on end! He is also the noisiest sleeper on the planet and makes lots of grunting and groaning noises when he sleeps! Naps still continue to be a challenge and he gets most of his daytime sleeping while someone is holding him.
Caleb has been eating great and now often takes 3 ounces at a time. He goes about 2-3 hours between feedings during the day and anywhere from 3-5 hours at night. We've been offering him a pacifier and he seems pretty neutral about it. Sometimes he sucks on it and other times he wants nothing to do with it. So we'll see if he ends up being a paci lover like his big sister or a paci hater like his big brother!
He has been having more frequent alert periods during the day and we've been trying to encourage them so that hopefully he will be awake less at night. He loves to sit in his bouncy chair and look at the little jungle animals or lay in his bassinet and watch the bears spin around on his mobile. And he is sooooo close to smiling! We've seen a few halfway smiles and I even caught one on camera! He's also been making little cooing and squealing sounds that are so cute. Sometimes he will do this really cute little noisy yawn and squealing combination - wish I could catch that on camera too!
Some other random tidbits:
Caleb gets hiccups at least once a day, often 2-3 times a day. He got hiccups a lot in the womb so not very surprising!
He has recently decided that he hates being up on our shoulders and would much rather be held in a cradle position or lie down on his back. I think this is helping with his transition to sleeping in his own bed!
When Caleb falls into a deep sleep his mouth will often hang open, which my dad refers to as his "fly catcher", and sometimes he makes these contented sighing noises that sound almost like he's purring. So cute!
We've had him in cloth diapers since he was 4 days old and he's already starting to outgrow the newborn ones!
Couldn't resist taking this picture too! I couldn't decide between taking pictures with the bear each month or taking pictures with props on different fabrics so I think I will do both :)
I think Caleb is definitely the most calm baby we've had yet! He really doesn't fuss much, even when he's hungry or overtired, and he loves to be held and cuddled. And we think he is just a wonderful addition to our little family!
