Finally, Maddie's new room is done! Quan had the entire last week off so we spent a good portion of it redoing Maddie's room. We did a little switcheroo with the kids, moving Isaac into Maddie's old room (aka "the nursery") and moving Maddie into the room Isaac had been sleeping in (aka "the big girl room"). This was supposed to happen before Isaac was born but, in a way, I'm glad that we waited. It gave us more time to decide what we wanted to do with the space and Maddie was old enough to enjoy the updated room. It was so fun to put together a little girl room for the first time. We had kept the nursery neutral since we didn't know Maddie was a girl and we wanted to be able to reuse the room for future babies.
Maddie spent two whole days with Quan's parents so we could paint, hang stuff, move furniture around, etc. Here we are picking up some special snacks for Maddie's stay with Grandpa and Grandma:
Unfortunately, we basically took no before pictures of the room. But just imagine a room with only a crib, changing table, some bookshelves and nothing on the walls. Poor Isaac had been living in such a boring space! We did snap a couple of pictures while we were priming the walls. The room (and the rest of the house) had been painted this weird beige color that sometimes looks almost peach or pink in certain lighting situations. And all those dots you see on the wall are holes I filled in from where Quan's Star Wars action figures used to live. Before we had Isaac, this room served as our office/Star Wars room/Man Cave.
The room went from that.....to this.....
The color is a really pretty light aqua called "By the Sea".
Here's some other shots of the fun things we did for Maddie's new room:
Tree wall decal with a cute little koala bear and birds
Maddie's big girl bed.....more on that later!
Monkey art from Memaw and PaPa
Maddie's little reading corner
No-sew curtains (and pillow) I made
I converted the "M" from Maddie's name sign to a bow holder
Wall collage - my favorite thing in the whole room! This is a collection of some of Maddie's (and my) favorite things: baby pictures of me and Quan, Maddie's birth details, her handprint at 2 years old, one of my favorite verses, and of course, butterflies, a ladybug and a rubber duckie! We figure that as Maddie gets older and her interests change, we can easily swap out the items in the frames for something different.
Quan's childhood dresser that I painted "Flower Girl" pink and lined the drawers with fun vintage paper
Here's what the dresser looked like before:
I found this fun hanging sign with Maddie's name awhile ago but never put it up until now. The dress in the middle is one I wore as a newborn.
Shelves for Maddie's special things

And finally, a chalkboard wall decal! We had originally put this low enough for Maddie to reach it, but she peeled it off of the wall. So it's hanging up out of reach on her closet for now. When she's a little older, I think she'll have a blast with this decal!
So that's what we've been up to this past week. We're really happy with how the room turned out and had a lot of fun putting it together :) Don't worry about Isaac.....he got a bit of a room makeover as well.....more on that later this week!
Here's a little video of Maddie's reaction to her new space:

Everything is just precious, funny how she liked the belabug the best!

ReplyDeleteHaha, I know! Once the excitement over the ladybug died down a little, she's come to appreciate the rest of the room too :)
