That morning was pretty stressful and Isaac was super cranky. I thought about not going to church but I'm so glad that I did. We were finishing up a Beth Moore DVD study (can't remember the name) and the last session was fantastic. Just what I needed to hear. And Maddie was being so sweet right before we left for Bible study. I was totally frazzled and couldn't find my hair clip to save my life. She must have heard me mumbling about my missing clip and came over saying "Mama" with a hair clip in her hand. It wasn't the one I was looking for but it worked and I was so proud of her for helping me out! It's moments like this one that I really want to remember :)
We are all so tired of this HOT weather! And the afternoon thunderstorms are getting old too. This is the first summer of being in our house (6 years this August!) that the swamp cooler is just not cutting it. We are getting air conditioning soon though since our swamp cooler is about to bite the dust. I can't wait! I usually catch up on housework when both kids are napping in the afternoon, but it has been so unbearably hot in our house that I just end up crashing on the couch with a cold drink in hand to read a book or spend time on my iPad.
Update on Maddie's napping situation: Since we converted Maddie's bed back to a crib, she has not missed a single nap! And she has been taking 2-3 hour naps each day. I think she must be making up for all those days without naps. I was a little worried that she would be upset that we took away her "big girl bed" but she was thrilled to see her crib again!
Let's just say that I have been feeling pretty humbled lately as a parent. Here I was getting so frustrated with my child that she would not sleep in her bed and in reality, she just wasn't ready for that transition. And then there's the whole potty training thing.....
At first, Maddie was doing great. She was eager to sit on her potty and was even going about once a day in the potty. But lately, she either does not want anything to do with her potty or will sit on it, sometimes for a lengthy period of time, and will go as soon as we put a diaper on her. We are still letting her sit on her potty at least once a day but I've basically come to the conclusion that once again she's just not ready for this transition.
And we've been dealing with some full blown "terrible twos" type behavior lately! I borrowed "Making the Terrible Twos Terrific" by John Rosemond from the library. Hoping it gives me some new insight on how to deal with my two year old! She keeps finding new ways to challenge me as a parent each day.
Maddie is now forward facing in her carseat and she loves it! She was just getting too tall and our doctor gave us the OK to turn her around, so we did :) Isaac is still rear facing, of course, but he graduated out of the baby carseat and is now in a bigger convertible carseat.
I have been working super hard this summer to get our house cleaned and organized. I am embarrassed to say that it's been a little neglected since we've had kids. But back to back pregnancies, terrible morning sickness, and just the stress of less sleep and little ones has made it hard to get much done in the past almost 3 years! Well that and my workload at home has increased just a little bit :) I used to complain about how little time I had when I was working full time and I would daydream about being a stay-at-home mom and all the things I would accomplish with my time. Ha! What little I knew!
I've also been doing some fun little creative projects here and there. I've been rearranging things on shelves and walls, donating tons of stuff (feels so good to get rid of clutter!) and putting together some new things to hang up on our walls. We've had the same things hanging in our house in the same places for almost 6 years. I figured it was time for some changes :) Quan doesn't understand what has gotten into me lately but I think maybe it's just leftover nesting energy!
Speaking of projects, Maddie is obsessed with hairbows lately so I made her a bunch over the weekend. They can be so expensive and I had lots of ribbon on hand so I thought I would give it a try. I found this fantastic website that has really great step by step instructions to make all kinds of different bows and other fun accessories. I put Maddie's hair up in a ponytail holder the other day and she proceeded to tell me, "Maddie wants a bow". She's becoming such a little girly girl :)
And because I just never got around to a Father's Day weekend post (and because you had to suffer through all of my babbling :D), here's some cute photos:
